Mixing Business with Pleasure

Work is where the average person spends the greater portion of their day. If a person likes the people they work with, they  may begin to view their colleagues as friends rather than people they tolerate. Some brave people take it a step further and pursue a romantic relationship in the workplace, which can become a recipe for disaster.

It is easy to understand how someone can fall for a coworker. When two people work together, they may share many similarities, like career goals, interests etc. Also, since they are in the company this person everyday, they can get accustomed to their personality, share laughs, and eventually let their guard down.

When I was single, I never dated anyone at work. My fear of things going wrong would always override the chance of utter bliss. Although some office romances result in beautiful marriages, many end up in Judge Judy’s court, or a company’s HR department.

Three Reasons to Never Date a Co-Worker:

1. If you have a fight, you can’t escape them at work. You will be forced to be civil for at least 8 hours a day 5 days a week.

2. If you or your buttercup is a manager, others may accuse you of giving your sweetie special treatment, or vice versa. This makes for tension in an office setting.

3. Office romances usually have to be hidden. Trying to act like you don’t have the hots for someone when you do, can be torture.
If you decide to date someone at work, be sure you are ready for the perks and consequences that may come along with that relationship.
